Important INFORMATION regarding priority recall list special notice from SPEEA, IFPTE Local 2001

The Boeing Company’s requirements for laid-off SPEEA-represented employees who want to maintain a place on the Company’s Priority Recall List.  While Boeing still considers all laid-off employees available for recall, the Priority Recall List determines the order of recall.

Laid-off employees must request in writing that they be placed on the Priority Recall List.  The initial request must be made within 45 days of layoff.  In addition, the request must be renewed, in writing, before the start of each six-month period.  Laid-off employees who do not provide written notification by the deadlines will be permanently dropped from the Priority Recall List.

Initial notification

Letter due at Boeing

Period covered

Within 45 days of layoff

Current 6-month period

July 1 to December 31

Maintenance of
Priority Recall Status

Letter due at Boeing

Period covered

November 15 to December 31

January 1 to June 30

May 17 to June 30

July 1 to December 31

Laid-off employees can remain on the recall list for up to three (3) years following the date of their layoff.  SPEEA recommends using Certified Mail to send your letters to Boeing.  This creates a way to trace your notification in the event a question arises.  [Please refer to the SPEEA website www.speea.org for the downloadable form letter – search for recall changes.]

It is important to continue the notifications within the required timeframes.  Once an individual is removed from the list, whether by choice or by missing a notification date, they cannot regain a place on the Priority Recall List.  Dropping on and off the list is not allowed.

Employees who chose to receive layoff benefits as a lump sum (as opposed to income continuation) waive first consideration recall rights and are not eligible for placement on the Priority Recall List.

The enclosed form letter allows you to supply proper notification of your desire to remain on the Priority Recall List to The Boeing Company.  Complete all information, making sure to mark the proper six-month period.  If you draft your own letter, be sure to include your name, social security number (or BEMS ID), mailing address and telephone number.

Keep in touch:    SPEEA also wants to keep in touch with laid-off members.  This allows us to send periodic information about job fairs and career opportunities.  To receive these notices, e-mail your name, address and home e-mail address to:  speea@speea.org.  To track laid-off members, we would appreciate knowing about any new job you take with a different company.  We also encourage you to visit the SPEEA website and sign-up for the ‘mailing list’ to keep informed about your union.

If you have a change of address and you have not yet informed the Company, please be certain to do so by contacting Boeing’s Total Access at – 1-866-473-2016.

Special note regarding recall:  If you receive a formal job offer from The Boeing Company, you must respond by the date specified in the offer.  If no date is specified, you must respond within ten (10) working days.  Should you refuse an offer from The Boeing Company for a full-time job in the same labor market from which you were laid off at a salary and grade equal to or greater than your salary at time of layoff within the SPEEA bargaining unit, you will be removed from layoff status.  If the offer is for a job at a lower salary, for a lesser level or in a different labor market, you may refuse the offer and retain your layoff status.  You will also lose your layoff status if you fail to report to work after having accepted an offer, or if you elect retirement.  A verifiable medical disability can allow for a waiver of missed requirements.

The SPEEA Executive Board and staff empathize with your position.  We wish you the best of luck in returning to employment. If you do not want to receive SPEEA reminders, please contact Nita at - (206) 433‑0995, ext. 131.

Sincerely,
Charles Bofferding
Executive Director
