The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is provided by
the Company at no charge to all Boeing employees. The EAP's services
include professional assessment and referral for personal problems.
Such problems can be marital or family, medical or psychological, alcohol
or drug, and to some extent, legal and financial concerns.
During the one-year period ending May 31, 1997, more
technical and engineering employees sought assistance through EAP for
work related problems and relationships than they did for chemical dependency.
The largest group sought help for mental health-related problems.
Most employees referred themselves to the EAP. Management
or HR suggested about 20% of the referrals. Some people were encouraged
to seek out help by family members or coworkers.
The EAP staff respects the personal and sensitive information
that employees provide, and treats discussions in appointments confidentially.
After evaluating your specific situation, your EAP counselor will present
some options. Examples might include tapping into mental health resources
of your community for individual, family, or marital counseling; recommending
in-patient or out-patient alcohol and/or drug rehabilitation programs;
or referring you to community advocacy programs for resolution of financial
or other crises.
Most people have times when they feel they are losing
their balance and dropping the balls. If that's happening to you, seek
help before you start the whole routine over again.
